Our client Madiha approached us to create a ring using a 20 carat ruby gemstone purchased on an overseas holiday, giving it extra special sentimental value. We feel very honoured to have been entrusted with such a precious gemstone.
With the stone being so striking she wanted it to be the 'star of the show', no additional bling, no additional fancy design. She asked for ideas for a simple, contemporary and elegant yet glamorous ring for occasion wear. Madiha was also specifically keen that the ring should sit well on her finger and for the ruby centrepiece to remain in it's correct position during wear.
We proposed a very plain band and collet setting with the showstopper ruby gemstone mounted in an east-west direction. This setting creates unusual styling combined with the practical benefit of a perfect fit, ticking two of Madiha's key requirements. With a precious gemstone with such stature the ring answer really can be 'less is more'.
As is often the case we exchanged the majority of design ideas, pictures and sketches remotely before modelling and manufacturing the ring in 22ct yellow gold. It is one of our all time favourites.
